NHLA JOINS THOUSANDS AT THE UNITED STATE OF WOMEN

Summit includes 3 NHLA Board Members as speakers and LatinasRepresent exhibit

Washington, D.C. – Members of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), a coalition of 40 of the nation's preeminent Latino advocacy organizations, joined an estimated 5,000 women at The White House Summit on The United State of Women (USOW). 

The USOW convened activists, community leaders, advocates, political leaders, government representatives, and academics to address a range of issues impacting women and girls in the United States and around the world, including gender-based violence, health, gender equity, civic engagement and entrepreneurship, among other topics. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden were among the dignitaries slated to address participants. 

“The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA) is proud to participate in the United State of Women Summit. As co-chair of the NHLA's Latina Task Force, I look forward to joining other Latinas and immigrant women in this historic event,” said Patti Tototzintle, CEO of Casa de Esperanza. 

NHLA Board members Jessica González-Rojas, Patti Tototzintle and Dr. Elena Rios (President and CEO of the National Hispanic Medical Association) served as summit speakers. NHLA also hosted an exhibit centered on its LatinasRepresent Initiative, a project aimed at increasing the number of Latinas engaged in public service. Attendees were also invited to share why a reflective democracy is critical and why Latina leadership is important. In addition, copies of the 2016 Hispanic Public Policy Agenda, the most gender-inclusive in the history of the NHLA, were also available for summit attendees.

NLIRH looks forward to building upon our successes this year so that we can continue to build Latinx power and move toward a more just and equitable future."
