  • Cientos de miles de propietarios de pequeñas empresas han aprovechado del crédito tributario de la ley, que asciende hasta un 35% de su aporte a la prima del seguro, cifra que se elevará al 50 por ciento el próximo año, para ayudarles a brindar cobertura a sus empleados.

  • Las primas de seguros patrocinados por los empleadores aumentaron solo el 3 por ciento el 2012, la tasa más baja registrada hasta ahora. Y conforme a la ley, una mayor responsabilidad de las compañías de seguros ha significado que las pequeñas empresas saben que ellas y sus empleados recuperarán su dinero si las compañías aseguradoras realmente no gastan dólares procedentes de primas en cuidados de salud.
  • El año pasado más de 3.3 millones de consumidores asegurados a través de pequeñas empresas recibieron un reembolso promedio de $174 porque las compañías de seguro no gastaron al menos 80 por ciento del ingreso por concepto de primas en cuidado de salud de buena calidad.
  • Para quienes no disponen de seguro, o para pequeñas empresas que adquieren cobertura por cuenta propia y andan en busca de algo mejor, la ley les brindará mejores opciones a través del nuevo Mercado de Seguro Médico, a partir de 2014. La inscripción abierta comienza el 1º de octubre de 2013, para cobertura que empieza el 1º de enero de 2014.

  • El segmento de pequeños empleadores del Mercado, que se conoce como Programa de Opciones de Salud para la Pequeña Empresa (SHOP, por sus siglas en inglés), le brindará a patronos con 50 empleados
  • menos, una nueva manera de adquirir seguro con ventajas clave que sencillamente no existen en la actualidad.
  • Los pequeños empleadores hallarán información clara sobre beneficios para ayudarles a efectuar comparaciones sencillas sobre su posible contribución al seguro, incluso, para saber si cumplen con los requisitos para recibir crédito tributario.
  • El SHOP ayudará a crear igualdad de condiciones para pequeños empleadores al permitirles consolidar sus riesgos con otras pequeñas empresas adquiriendo planes de seguros en SHOP para lograr el mismo poder de influencia del que gozan sus competidores de mayor tamaño.
  • Comenzando en 2014 o 2015, según el estado en el que se hallen, las pequeñas empresas podrán ofrecer a sus empleados una gama de opciones de planes a través de múltiples compañías de seguros en el Mercado SHOP.
